Man, I miss the Cold War!

"Enemy Agent" is the Best Game Ever! I love the intrigue, the deceit, the skullduggery of trying to sneak secret plans across the border from one non-descript, generic Eastern Bloc nation to another non-descript, generic Eastern Bloc nation (one of which, I presume, is allied with the good old US of A), coupled with the very real-world risk of being nabbed by the secret police (or "Sekrit Polis" if you're into that whole non-descript, generic Eastern Bloc thing) of the opposition. The whole idea of basing a board game on Cold-War era paranoia and espionage is just really appealing to me. Man, I miss those days... Then again, I also miss bell bottoms, "disco shirts" and Hai Karate cologne. Man, I loved the Cold War.

As for the game, once again I didn't win, but neither did anybody else, so I can live with that.

Oh, and Video Village just stunk on ice. But it was still really fun in a non-descript, hanging with the guys, drinking wine and playing stupid board games kind of way. Pass the nuts, Zeus..

december play

OK. 'Enemy Agent'. Teams of agents and tourists are sent through the wall (presumably Berlin) to try and ferret out the top secret folder and bring it back to their side of the wall all while dodging Stazi/CIA thugs. I was positive our team would lose as our agents were quickly exposed but HA! Thanks to quick thinking the game ended in a ...TIE?!?! What the?! A flippin' tie!? Still ...worlds better than VV (see below)

Yes! Video Village! Ladies and gentlemen boys and girls it's time to play that creature from the '50s VIDEO VILLAGE!!!(applause). So bad a board game that I'm glad I don't appear in this photo and it can clearly be seen that one embarrassed gamester chooses to hide. Played in teams and I think my team lost. The most boring game ever.I told a buddy about this and he got excited as he had it as a kid. I gave it to him for Xmas. Sucker!

madness mere

I saw a ship of material build
(Her standards set, her brave apparel on)
Directed as by madness mere
Against a solid iceberg steer,
Nor budge it, though the infactuate ship went
down.

-Herman Melville, The Berg (A Dream)

The missing entry in the account of November Game Night. Our second game, the MAD Magazine game. Fabulously left-handed. Move counter clockwise. Lose all your money to win. Oh yes, and always roll with your left hand or risk encumbrance with filthy cash if you are caught right handed as Capt Jack was at the beginning. Would definitely play again if only because the rules tax the brain so little.
